Apple inks deal with China Mobile.

China MobileAccording the The Wall Street Journal, Apple and China Mobile have inked a deal to begin selling the iPhone.

China Mobile has more than 700 million subscribers and the deal with China Mobile gives Apple access to a subscriber base that is seven times the size of Verizon Wireless, the U.S.‘s largest carrier. Greater China, including Hong Kong and Taiwan, is Apple’s third biggest market after the U.S. and Europe in terms of revenue.

Apple awarded $290 Million in Samsung Damages Retrial

In the damages retrial between Samsung and Apple the jury found Samsung liable for $290 million in damages according to Martyn Williams Senior correspondent at IDG News Service in Silicon Valley.

Samsung had been ordered to pay Apple $1.05 billion last year after a jury found Samsung guilty of violating numerous Apple patents. However in March Judge Lucy Koh rescinded $450 million claiming the jury may have miscalculated the damages without a full knowledge of patent issues.

Samsung will now have to pay a total of $890 million in damages to Apple.

Apple Store App now available on iPad

Apple Store iPad AppApple has officially launched the Apple Store App for iPad today, more than 3 years after the app was released for the iPhone.

The app has the same functionality as the iPhone version but designed for the iPad from the ground up.

Key features include:
- Trending products based on users purchases, social shares, and reviews.
- Gestures for zooming, browsing and comparing products.
- Purchase products and choose to pick up locally or have them delivered.
- View local retail location hours, product stock availability, directions, make Genius bar reservations and sign up for workshops.
- Mark Global Apple retail stores as favorites.

The App is available to download for free in iTunes and does require iOS 7.0 or later.

Impending Apple TV prompts Roku ad surge.

RokuApple TV competitor, Roku, has begun a national advertising campaign to heighten the awareness of its television set top box this Holiday season.  “This is going to be the biggest holiday season for streaming; it’s going mainstream,” said Roku’s marketing chief, Matthew Anderson.  Roku is a competitor of the Apple TV which offers many of the same services at half the price, coming in at just $49.95USD.  Apple TV has access to Apple’s iTunes Store and the users’ iTunes Library.  Apple has long referred to its tiny media player as a hobby, but lately has been more active with software updates, and new channel additions.  Persistent rumors place a full blown Apple TV, dubbed iTV, in the works for late 2014 or 2015.  Apple has only had one ad that

Apple planning something ‘huge’?

Trusted sources within Apple have suggested that Apple is planning a ‘huge’ 2014. Product specifics were not mentioned, however the two separate sources suggested that Apple is ready to counter the media backlash which claims the company is no longer innovative.
The innovation topic is a sore spot for Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Phil Schiller, who proclaimed publicly on stage: “Can’t innovate anymore? My ass!” While introducing the new Mac Pro.
During the iPhone debut, Steve Jobs indicated that the phone was something they’ve worked on for a long time and was five years ahead of the competition. 
Apple is a research & development company more than a software or hardware company.  While Samsung, Google and others have spent the last few years trying to compete with the iPhone, Apple apparently wasn’t sitting still and has been working on the next ‘huge’ thing.
It is safe to say that the products we are about to see have been in development for years. In fact, during many product introductions, various executives have made reference to the fact that the product is years in the making.
