The Associated Press, a New York-based news agency founded in 1846, will be attempting an expansion into paid subscription for its content for users of the upcoming iPad.
The Financial Times reports the AP is the “largest news organization to challenge the assumption comsumers will not pay for general stories.”
The AP’s content is currently used by over 1,700 newspapers and more than 5,000 TV and radio stations and is described as their “backbone.”

Florida-based mobile phone media website Myxer reports findings from a sudy of its users that reveal the number of users with Android based devices has surpassed the number of those with iPhones in Arizona, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming.
electronista reports that this grouping corresponds to the areas where AT&T’s 3G coverage is of poor quality.
The study also found that the most musculine device on the Android OS was the Nexus One, users of which are 75% male.

The updated version of Camera Plus Pro, which requires iPhone OS 3.1 or later, is available from the App Atore today for $1.99.
The application delivers video recording functionality to any iPhone model, including the original.
The video clips and photo images created with the program can be geo tagged, commented on, and shared through Facebook and in the case of videos, on YouTube.

Morgan Stanley analyst Kathryn Huberty predicts that apple will introduce a more “economically friendly” iPhone this June, according to AppleInsider.
“We expect Apple to launch new iPhones in June that offer both a lower total cost of ownership and new functionality, potentially including gesture-based technology,” says the analyst, in a note to investors today.
Morgan Stanley considers the cost of hardware and service plans to be the two most prevalent purchase barriers among potential iPhone customers.

Apple’s shareholders meeting took place this morning at 10am Pacific time at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California.
The event was hosted by CEO Steve Jobs, who responded to shareholders’ questions.
Of note during the meeting were the following comments:
- Twenty five retail stores planned for China
- All seven board members up for election approved by shareholders
- Large cash balance provides Apple with flexibility and security
- Share price would be unaffected by dividend payment or stock buyback
- The only thing company is afraid of are things it cannot control, such as the economy
- No hint on iPhone with Verizon question

“If company employees like me can be held criminally liable for any video on a hosting platform, when they had absolutely nothing to do with the video in question, then our liability is unlimited,” said Google global privacy counselor Peter Fleischer.
Fleischer was found guilty yesterday, along with Google’s chief legal officer David Drummand and former CFO George Reyes, of allowing a video of an autistic child being bullied to be shown on Google Videos for a two month period during fall 2006.
The New York Times reports that the recent ruling by an Italian judge, which gave the executives six month suspended sentences, could indicate that companys like Google may now be held accountable for the content of the internet itself, if they intend to make a profit from it.

Apple Vice President of Retail told shareholders that the company is planning to open 25 retail stores in China.
The company did not provide any sort of timeframe for the openings.
Apple opened its first retail store in China in July 2008, right before the start of the Olympic Games.
Earlier this week, Apple COO Tim Cook noted at a Goldman Sachs conference that the company will open a store in Shanghai this summer.

A Gizmodo source reports that the “explicit" category option within App Store submission software introduced recently was promptly removed a short time later.
Phill Schiller explained to the New York Times this week that Apple had been receiving “customer complaints” regarding salacious content in the App Store and cleaned house in an effort “to put the needs of the kids and parents first.”
Developers like Fred Clark of On the Go Girls, which had all 50 of its applications deleted in the past week, expressed frustration saying, “its very hard to go from making a good living to zero.”
