AT&T has halted online iPhone sales to New York customers for unclear reasons.
Customers who provide a New York City zip code on AT&Ts online store are told to “Please shop for another phone.”
The company has offered no explanation for the move but said today that it “periodically modifies its distribution channels.”
AT&T network problems in New York City and San Francisco have been widely reported lately, prompting some people so suggest that the sales halt is a way for the company to reduce traffic.
The iPhone is available in New York retail stores, however, and from Apple’s online store so the suspension could be a way to reduce fraudulent iPhone sales.
Update: AT&T has resumed online iPhone sales to New York City residents but no details about the brief suspension have been provided.
