CBS to stream live March Madness games over 3G.

imageFor the first time ever iPhone users can enjoy the NCAA tournament live through AT&T’s 3G network.

The latest version of the CBS March Madness application, expected to be released today through iTunes for $9.99, will stream games live anywhere with AT&T 3G coverage.

The application will provide live radio broadcasts, overtime and potential upset alerts, and an interactive tournament bracket with real-time scores.

The 2009 version of the March Madness app offered live streaming video and audio of all 63 games in the tournament but only in areas with WiFi.

“Last year, we were the first to do a live sporting event with the March Madness app, and since then the appetite for video and live video has grown massively for us…We one-upped ourselves,” said GM of CBS Mobile Rob Gelick, according to paidContent.org. “Now people can stay connected regardless of where they are.”

While CBS plans to offer a free, limited version of the app for the Blackberry, the iPhone will offer complete coverage, with live streaming video, of the 2010 NCAA men’s basketball tournament which will begin March 16th.
