Apple today released a combo update to its Airport Extreme and Time Machine products.
While LOOPRumors learned that Apple held off on allowing Time Machine back-up to AirPort Extreme wirelessly over the network due to sleep/wake/write issues, new reports find that this update enables the missing wireless back-up feature that Apple touted as a major feature in Leopard.
The new feature allows an external hard drive, connected to the USB port of the Airport Extreme, to act in the same manner that Apple’s Time Capsule product does.
In addition to this major feature, the update includes bug fixes. AirPort Extreme Base Station with 802.11n Firmware 7.3.1 also includes security fixes.
