64GB iPhone and 128GB iPod touch in 2010?

imageToshiba today announced the launch of a 64GB embedded NAND flash memory module which offers 64GB on a single chip.

The new chip will start mass production in the first quarter of 2010.

The iPhone currently has half the memory capacity of the high end iPod touch because the iPhone’s hardware space is taken up by communication components and can only fit one NAND flash chip.

We could therefore see 64GB iPhones and 128GB iPod touches in 2010. A recent teardown of the iPhone hardware revealed that Toshiba was the supplier of flash memory on the iPhone 3GS.
