Apple updates iMac.

imageTuesday, Apple rolled out a new line of iMac desktops with Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 processors and ATI Radeon HD 5750 graphics.

The new iMac features a 4GB 1333 MHz memory expandable to 16GB, an integrated memory controller, and an SD card slot that now supports the SDXC format for high capacity storage cards.

Mac Pro and iMac updates coming Tuesday?

imageApple is expected to announce new iMacs and Mac Pros tomorrow, along with a new 27” Cinema Display.

“We’ll have much to talk about, what with the new Mac Pros (finally, right?), speed-bump iMacs, and the gorgeous new 16:9 27-inch Cinema Display that Apple might hypothetically release tomorrow,” John Gruber writes for Daring Fireball.

Gruber further asserts that Apple could unveil the Magic Trackpad tomorrow, which was approved by the FCC last week.

Rumor: iLife update coming in August.

Sam Mendes iPhone ads to promote video chat.

imageSam Mendes, director of Jarhead and American Beauty, is preparing a series of television ads for the fourth-generation iPhone.

Engadget reports that “a trusted source has confirmed to us that the ads will feature at least one spot where a mother and daughter are having a video chat conversation using the new front-facing camera that’s been spied on the face of that iPhone floating around Vietnam and Northern California.”

Apple releases two iMac firmware updates.

image Apple today released two firmware updates for its 27-inch iMac models.

27-inch iMac EFI FW Update 1.0 [2.1 MB] addresses an issue that caused high processor utilization while playing audio through the headphone output mini-jack and another that prevented the display backlight from turning on after powering on the iMac.

27-inch iMac SMC Firmware Update 1.0 [397 KB] fixes Target Display Mode compatibility issues on 27-inch iMac computers.

The company also released Security Update 2010-003 for Snow Leopard and Leopard.

9 out of 10 Oscar doc nominees choose Apple.

imageOut of the ten nominees in the categories of Best Documentary Feature and Best Documentary Short at the 82nd Academy Awards Sunday, nine used Apple’s Final Cut Studio to make their films.

Using programs like Motion and Final Cut Pro, which are included in the Final Cut Studio package, filmmakers are able to produce highly refined rough cuts enabling editors to present a very polished final product.

CNet reports that Kim Roberts, editor of Documentary Feature nominee, Food, Inc said, “I tend to work on a lot of independent documentaries and Final Cut Pro is affordable and a good application. It’s been a natural choice for filmmakers.”

Apple ranked most reliable computer maker.

imageRescuecom, a national US computer repair outfit based in Syracuse, has published its 2010 Computer Reliability Report.

The results show that Apple, Inc produces the nations most reliable machines, based on the company’s market share compared the percentage of Apple computer support calls handled by Rescuecom.

This is Apple’s third year in a row taking the top ranking in this report.

“They’ve maintained that position without fail, which is first of all a testament to the reliability of their machines,” said Rescuecom president Josh Kaplan.

Rescuecom states that a computer’s reliability is a result of the quality of components and the effectiveness of after-sale support.

Shipping times on 27” iMac improve.

Shipping times for the 27-inch iMac models from Apple’s online store have improved today after seeing significant delays.

The U.S. and Canada online stores are now showing shipping times of 5-7 business days and European stores are seeing shipping times of 2 weeks.

U.S. and Canada customers faced a 2-week shipping time prior to this adjustment while European customers had a 3-week wait.

Apple claimed that high demand is behind the delays but the company has had to deal with issues with the 27-inch iMac display, including flickering and yellow tinting.

CS5 for Mac to feature 64-bit Photoshop.

imageAdobe’s Creative Suite 5, expected to ship this spring, will feature Photoshop CS5.

This latest installment of photoshop should upgrade from the previous version’s 32-bit carbon architecture to 64-bit code.

According to macnn, sources allegedly familiar with pre-release CS5 report that many changes will be included in the software.

27-inch iMac production halted?

Apple is temporarily halting production of 27-inch iMacs, a well informed source claims.

The issue is said to affect Core i5 and i7 systems. The interruption will hold until Apple fixes problems causing the screen to turn very yellow and issues with the stability of the screen image.

The Apple store is showing a three-week shipping delay and the company is even informing customers that it cannot honor recent orders.

Affected users are hoping that these issues can be addressed through software updates, which will be difficult for the yellow screen problem.
