Macworld Mobile coming to Barcelona in 2011.

image“The biggest mobile trade show in the world, the Mobile World Congress, will host the first-ever Macworld Mobile next February in Barcelona, Spain,” reports AppleInsider.

“The new Macworld Mobile will be focused on developers who create applications for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The event is scheduled for Feb. 14-17, 2011, in Barcelona.”

iOS tops Linux in internet platform popularity.

image“Apple’s iOS mobile operating system is now the third-most popular platform on the Internet, with a share nearly six times larger than Android’s, a Web measurement company said Wednesday,” reports Computerworld

“Collectively the devices that run iOS—the iPhone, the iPod Touch and the iPad—accounted for 1.1% of all hardware on the Internet last month, more than enough to shove Linux off its perch as the third-place operating system on the Web.”

Consumer 3D HD camcorder debuts at U.S. Open.

image“Panasonic used the broiling, hectic setting of the U.S. Open tennis tourney in New York Wednesday to showcase the capabilities of its first handheld consumer-grade 3D camcorder,” reports PCWorld.

“On a day so hot and humid that one athlete, Victoria Azarenka, collapsed and had to withdraw from competition, Panasonic showed how the $1,400 Panasonic HDC-SDT750 handheld unit could record clear 3D video without the large and heavy hardware usually connected with 3D videography.”

T-Mobile iPhone “a definite.”

image“A source from Apple tells [examiner.com] that the iPhone is a definite go for T-Mobile.

‘There were talks about it, then strong rumors. Then, there were problems with the carrier. But now, the iPhone will definitely be available for T-Mobile.’

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get an exact availability date, but it sounds like the very beginning of next year.”

Apple announces new iPod lineup.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs just announced a refreshed line of iPods at today’s media event in San Francisco, CA.

Jobs introduced the new iPod shuffle, nano, and touch models to the media in San Francisco and viewers around the world as the company provided a live broadcast for the first time to test its new $1 billion facility in North Carolina.

The new, thinner iPod touch includes a front facing camera for FaceTime, HD video recording, and retina display. The new model will be priced as follows:
8GB $229, 32GB $299, 64GB $399.

The new nano now boasts a small multi-touch screen and includes Nike+ and a pedometer.

The new shuffle will sell for only $49.

The new iPod family is available for pre-order today and will start shipping next week.

Apple to provide live video streaming of September 1 event

Apple will broadcast its September 1 event online using Apple’s industry-leading HTTP Live Streaming, which is based on open standards.

Viewing requires either a Mac running Safari on Mac OS X version 10.6 Snow Leopard, an iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 3.0 or higher, or an iPad.

The live broadcast will begin at 10:00 a.m. PDT on September 1, 2010 at http://www.apple.com.

Paul Allen sues Apple, Google, and others.

image The Wall Street Journal reports that patent licensing firm Interval Licensing has filed a suit against Apple, Google and nine other companies over patents related to e-commerce and Web search technologies.

The firm, headed by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, protects the intellectual property of his technology incubator company Interval Research Corporation.

Mr. Allen, 57, Friday through his firm Interval Licensing LLC filed suit in federal court in Seattle asserting the companies are using technology from his laboratory. Named in the suit, along with Apple and Google, are AOL Inc., eBay Inc., Facebook Inc., Netflix Inc., Office Depot Inc., OfficeMax Inc., Staples Inc., Yahoo Inc. and Google’s YouTube subsidiary.

The suit doesn’t name Microsoft, Amazon.com Inc. or other technology firms in Seattle where Mr. Allen is based. The suit doesn’t estimate a damage amount.
