Vodafone India pre-registring customers for iPhone.

Vodafone India has started pre-registering customers for Apple’s new iPhone 3G, promising that the device will be available soon, PC World reports.

The company, who announced earlier this year that the iPhone 3G will be available in India during the year, has not yet announced when the device will be available.

“The Indian government has as yet to issue final guidelines on the auction of 3G (third generation telephony) spectrum and licenses in India. One of the issues holding up a final decision is whether foreign companies can bid for the license”, the report states.

Vodafone India launched advertisements in The Times of India and on its website, offering customers to pre-register for the iPhone 3G. It does however warn that the device offered is currently only compatible with 2G networks and that some of its features may not be available in India.

Another Indian operator, Bharti Airtel, said that it will carry the iPhone 3G in India later this year, without listing a specific date.
