Apple grants 60-day extension to MobileMe subscribers.

Apple has informed its MobileMe customers that they will receive an additional free 60-day extension as the service is still not up to the company’s standards.

Eligible customers must have had an active MobileMe account as of August 19, 2008 at 0:00 Pacific Daylight Time.

Apple releases new Mac OS X 10.5.5 build (9F17).

Apple delivered a new build of Mac OS X 10.5.5 (9F17) to its developers last night.

The new build still lists no known issues and brings fixes for iCal, Back to My Mac, Mail, and CoreAnimation.

The last Mac OS X update (10.5.4) was released on June 30th, 2008. The upcoming release is expected to include 120 bug fixes.

Apple leads customer satisfaction report.

According to a recent customer satisfaction survey, Apple remains the highest ranked firm in customer satisfaction for personal computers.

The second quarter survey conducted by the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) in the University of Michigan shows a record score of 85 for Apple, 10 points above its nearest rival Dell.

Apple airs three new Mac television ads.

Apple has started airing three new Get-a-Mac ads on television networks.

In one of the ads, entitled “Throne,” Mac explains how easy it is to switch to Mac by bringing your PC to an Apple store. The other ads, called “Pizza Box” and “Calming Teas” show PC trying to attract college students with free pizza and PC offering a new line of calming teas to frustrated Windows Vista users.

Apple releases iPhone firmware 2.0.2.

Apple today released another firmware update for iPhone 2.0.

iPhone firmware 2.0.2 is described by Apple to only include “bug fixes.” This software update could finally fix the iPhone 3G connectivity issues, but it is not yet known if is indeed intended to.

The update is available through iTunes when an iPhone is connected.

Turkcell to sell iPhone 3G in Turkey.

Turkish mobile phone operator Turkcell said on Monday it had signed an agreement with Apple to sell its new iPhone 3G in Turkey.

Turkcell will be the second operator to carry the iPhone in Turkey, as Vodafone announced its agreement with Apple earlier this year. The company is the leading wireless provider in Turkey with 35.4 million customers.

It did not offer a specific date or price for the Turkish launch, but said that the iPhone will be available to customers of both its prepaid plans and recurring subscription services.

T-Mobile will offer the first phone powered by Google’s Android mobile platform, according to a New York Times article.

The phone made by HTC is expected to have many similarities with the iPhone.

Former Apple general counsel settles backdating charges.

The former top attorney at Apple on Thursday agreed to pay $2.2 million to settle federal regulators’ charges that she altered company records to conceal improper backdating of stock options for senior executives including Steve Jobs, the AP reports.

The Securities and Exchange Commission announced the settlement with former Apple general counsel Nancy Heinen, whose civil trial in the case had been scheduled for next year. Heinen neither admitted nor denied wrongdoing in settling the SEC’s lawsuit, which was filed last year in federal court in San Jose, Calif.
